Surveillance Systems for Terrestrial Transport Safety and Improved User Information Capability

The problem of transport safety and security is becoming more and more complex due to the increasing of road transport demand. In order to improve transport conditions it is necessary to develop systems integrating on-board and off-board technologies: off board systems provide the on-board devices with the traffic data and information by means of communications systems, so the problem of the integration between off-board and on-board systems can be considered as a communications problem. Within this paper the integrated surveillance system architecture, proposed within the SUSTAIN Exploratory Action (Surveillance Systems for Terrestrial Transport Safety and Improved User Information Capability, THEMATIC NETWORK within the Industrial and Materials Technologies Programme – BRITE EURAM III), is shown.
